Easy Zombie Cookies for Halloween

You’ve probably seen the same amazing zombie cookies I’ve been seeing all over Pinterest. People with incredible icing skills are doing those cookies and honestly, I missed out on that particular gene in my family. So, for all of us moms who need something simple to make for Halloween treats, here are some super simple zombie cookies that literally need no skills at all.

These no chill sugar cookies were made by my kids who are a pretty biased audience, so we took some to a friend and they were pronounced delicious by two people outside our family. So, rest assured, not only are they easy, they’re yummy zombie cookies.

Zombie Cookie Recipe

Makes roughly 30 cookies

1 cup margarine (2 sticks)
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cup all purpose flour
green food coloring

Preheat the oven to 350°.

B9b204c42a76907644744b865d63bf08In a medium bowl, beat the sugar and margarine together until they are light yellow. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until completely blended.

In a small bowl, mix the flour and baking powder and slowly add it to the egg mixture, stirring until it comes together in a ball. Add green food coloring to get the preferred color. We used about five drops of Americolor Teal for these.

Flour the counter and roll out the dough, then cut out your zombie cookies. We used these cookie cutters, but you can get zombie cookie cutters in any shape . . . or use gingerbread man cutters and bend the legs a bit.

Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until just set and golden underneath. Cool before decorating.

Decorating Your Zombie Cookies

Obviously, if you are gifted in the area of decorating cookies, you should go for it and make the rest of us drool. But, for the rest of us . . . dribbling “blood” over everything is a terrific way to go. It looks creepy, tastes good and is impossible to mess up!

To make your icing, blend a tablespoon of margarine into a cup and a half of icing sugar and add your red food coloring. Then slowly add milk until you have a slightly running consistency. When you lift the spoon, it should fall in a ribbon.

Use a spoon to dribble the red icing back and forth over the cooled zombie cookies, then let them sit until the icing hardens up a bit. Eat up!
